Timely Warning Notification of a Criminal Incident September 25, 2008 Strong-Arm Robbery

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

On September 25, 2008 at approximately 3:20PM a man entered the Parrington Hall Coffee shop and approached the counter.  There were no customers present.  The man demanded money and asked the food service worker to open the register.  She said she was unable to do so, and the man became upset, spoke in an angry tone, and caused the victim to fear for her safety.  The victim proceeded to open the register, at which point the man reached over the counter, took the money and left the premises.

The suspect is described as a 6'4" male, medium build, with short black hair and slight facial hair. The suspect appeared to be of African-American descent. He was last seen wearing a red coat with white stripes on the sleeves and blue jeans.  A strong-arm robbery occurs when a suspect takes property directly from a person or in a person's presence by the use of force or threat of force.  There was no weapon observed by the victim.
