Timely Warning Notification of a Criminal Incident March 8, 2008 Armed Robbery

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

On Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 9:56 PM, a male Ballard high school student was approached by three males in the E17 parking lot on Montlake Boulevard after a high school tournament basketball game at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. The three appeared to be high school students. One wore an orange beanie hat, orange shirt, and blue jeans, black hair worn in a long ponytail, brown eyes, and a medium build. The suspect demanded the victim's cell phone and pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at the victim, saying "Give me your cell phone or I'll shoot you." The suspect complied by giving him his cell phone and bus pass. All three suspects left the area, walking southbound on Montlake Boulevard towards the Montlake Bridge. Responding UWPD officers searched the area in an attempt to locate the suspects, but were unsuccessful. This incident was assigned UWPD incident number 08-000635. In order to decrease the chances of becoming a victim of crime, you should:

* Be aware of your environment and alert for possible danger.
* Walk in a group.
* Remove yourself from potentially dangerous situations as soon as possible.
* Call 911 to report suspicious activity or persons to the police.
* Call Husky NightWalk: 206-685-WALK (9255) for a security guard escort to various locations on campus and within a one-mile radius off campus. The hours of operation for these uniformed guards are 6:00pm-2:00am, 7 days week.
