On January 8, 2008, at approximately 07:00 a.m., a female UW student arrived in her personal vehicle at the north entrance to campus located at 17th Avenue NE and NE 45th Street. She requested medical assistance from the UW parking attendant.  The parking attendant saw that the female had a serious head injury and called 911 for help.  After medical personnel arrived on scene, the female was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment and remains in critical condition.  It appears that the female is a victim of a physical assault perpetrated by a male in the early morning hours, though the University of Washington Police Department  has been unable to develop facts in this case due to the victim's condition. The exact location of the assault has not been determined, but it is possible that it occurred in the vicinity north of campus. There are currently no known suspects in the case.

Suspicious Person - Solicitation of Sex

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

This message is being sent to all Faculty, Staff, and Students with the approval of the UW Police Department.

Date of Incidents - December 17, 2007

The University of Washington Police Department is investigating a report of a suspicious male who approached a female student in the Montlake Parking Lot (parking area E-1). The suspicious male yelled at the female student and she initially pretended to ignore him. He then yelled again and asked if she knew the time. She stopped and gave him the time. He then asked her if she would have sex with him. The female student immediately left the parking lot and walked to the University Village where she called the police.

Approximately three and one-half hours later, a second female student called the University Police to report a suspicious male who was following her as she walked behind the University of Washington Club and told her she was good looking. She walked quickly to the Engineering Library and phoned the police. The description she gave closely matched that of the suspicious male in the previous incident.

Approximately eighteen minutes later, while the police were still looking for the suspicious male near the Engineering Library another call was placed via 911 from the N-22 parking lot north of the HUB. A male matching the same description was once again described as acting strangely and this time told the caller that she was very beautiful.

The suspicious person in these incidents is described as a white male, approximately 20 to 30 years old, with buzz cut or shaved head, 5'9", pock marked face, teeth with spaces between them, wearing a blue satin team sport jacket and blue jeans, carrying a black or grey back pack and a water bottle.

No crime has been committed at this time.  However, his approach is disturbing enough that three separate women chose to call police.

Anyone seeing the person described in these incidents is asked to call 911 immediately. If you have any additional information about these incidents or you were contacted by this person or know his identity, please call the University of Washington Police at (206) 685-UWPD (8973) reference incident #07-002652.

Threat to Law School Community

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

The University of Washington Police Department is investigating a threat directed at Law School Students and the University of Washington Law School.  The threat was in the form of a graffiti message written on a wall in the Allen Library.  The message indicated that the person(s) intended to commit an act of violence with the use of a weapon.  The time period stated in the graffiti was vague, but reference was made to the month of November.

There is no information indicating a threat to the rest of campus.

Additional security measures are in place at the Gates Law School.  A police officer is assigned to the building to visually observe those entering the building.  The building is restricted to the faculty and staff of the Law School, UW Law School Students, and those who have classes within the building.  All are required to use their Husky Card for access.  Although it is unknown if the threat is real we are taking these precautions to protect our campus community.

Anyone seeing suspicious activity in or around the Law School is asked to call 911 immediately.

If you have any additional information about this crime, please call the University of Washington Police at (206) 685-UWPD (8973) reference incident #07-2270.

Timely Warning Notification of a Criminal Incident October 8, 2007
Strong-Arm Robbery

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the
interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring
timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

On October 8, 2007 at approximately 10:14 AM, a UW employee in Guthrie
Hall entered her office and discovered an unauthorized person inside.
She challenged him about his presence, and he attempted to get past her
to reach the door.  She noticed that he had her purse with him so she
grabbed his jacket, trying to stop him.  There was a short struggle and
he broke free and ran out of the building.  Several co-workers saw the
incident, called 911, and tried to follow the suspect.  The co-workers
and other witnesses provided information about the suspect's direction
of travel.  Officers searched several buildings near the last known
location, which was the NE Pacific Street overpass near the Biological
Sciences building.  The suspect was not located.

A strong-arm robbery occurs when a suspect takes property directly from
a person by the use of force or threat of force.  There was no weapon
seen by the victim or witnesses.

The suspect was described as a male of African-American descent, with a
medium complexion, early 30s, about 5'-10" to 6'-00" tall, wearing a
white or gray oversized sweat jacket with dark blue patches on the
shoulders and black pants.  His hair was worn in corn rows.  Some
employees reportedly have seen a very similar appearing person in the
building several times over the last few months.

The stolen property is a small black and white purse - a designer
look-alike with contents.  The property has not yet been recovered.

If you have any additional information about this crime, please call the
University of Washington Police at (206) 685-UWPD (8973) reference
incident #07-2075.

Crimes of this type occur very infrequently at the University.  There
are some precautions you can take to prevent yourself from becoming a
victim and other actions you can take to reduce your chances of being
injured if you become a victim.

*  Lock your office door when you are not inside.  It is common for
thieves to walk through UW buildings, looking for property to steal.

*  If you confront a person trying to steal something, it is safer
to not obstruct the person's attempt to escape.  You cannot be sure what
level of force the person will use to try to get away.  Call 911 and
provide an accurate physical description and direction of travel.

206-543-9338 for additional crime prevention information.
