Information Regarding a Criminal Incident

On July 16, 2009, at 3:43 AM two male UW students were walking westbound on NE 47th Street when at 19th Ave NE they noticed a group of 3 to 4 males across the street. Words were exchanged between the two groups, resulting in one of the students being attacked. A witness stepped in and stopped the fight, the suspects ran off. The victim sustained injuries to his mouth and face and was treated at the scene, and later at the UW Medical Center.

SPD Officers conducted an area check and located three possible suspects. The victim and witness were transported to their location, one suspect was positively identified. The suspect was booked into King County Jail. The other two were identified and released.

This incident is being investigated by the Seattle Police Department under incident number 2009-245881.

Timely Warning Notification of a Criminal Incident

Armed Robbery - Near Seattle Campus

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus. This is not a UW Alert message. For more information regarding UW Alert, visit www.uwalert.org

On Thursday July 2, 2009, at 4:27 p.m., a lone employee at a coffee shop in the 5000 block of Brooklyn Ave NE was robbed at gunpoint. The suspects were two males in their 20s who fled westbound on foot on NE 52nd. A citizen followed the suspects and a short time later reported they were traveling westbound on N.E. Campus Parkway from N.E. Brooklyn.

Officers from the Seattle Police Department and the University of Washington Police Department responded to the area, but were unable to locate the suspects.

In order to decrease the chances of becoming a victim of crime, you should:

- Walk with friends, especially late at night or early morning hours
- Be aware of your environment and alert for possible danger.
- Remove yourself from potentially dangerous situations as soon as possible.
- Call 911 to report suspicious activity or persons to the police.
