[UW Safety] Notification of a Criminal Incident - Bank Robbery - Seattle Campus

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

On Monday, July 26, 2010, at approximately 11:50 a.m., a bank robbery occurred at a bank in the 1300 block of N.E. 45th Street in Seattle. The robbery suspect was described as a white male in his late 30's, 6'-03" in height, slim build, with messy gray/partially gray hair. The suspect was wearing glasses, a striped shirt and a black jacket. After the robbery, the suspect fled on foot westbound from the bank on NE 45th Street and was seen carrying a Fireworks shopping bag.

Seattle Police and University of Washington Police Officers responded to the scene and conducted an extensive area check but were unable to locate the suspect. This incident is being investigated by the Seattle Police Department and the FBI under SPD incident number 10-257618. Anyone having additional information regarding this case is asked to call the Seattle Police Department at 206-684-5535.

Prevention tips for incidents such as this:
* Call 911 to report suspicious activity or persons to the police.
* Avoid confrontations with suspects if possible.
* Be aware of your environment and alert for possible danger.
* Remove yourself from potentially dangerous situations as soon as possible.

If you notice that a bank robbery is in progress, simply get some details on the robber that you can pass on to the police. Some helpful information to pass on to the police:
* Clothing descriptors- look for layers under the visible layer (usually the outer layer will come off once the suspect leaves the scene)
* Physical characteristics - height, weight, eyes, hair, mannerisms, scars/tattoos
* Direction of travel (by foot or automobile)
* Automobile description
* Weapons involved - the police need to know if the robber is armed

Remember that the bank robber is trying to avoid being captured, therefore, DO NOT try to attract any unwanted attention to yourself. Attempting to stop or agitate the bank robber can result in harm to yourself and/or others. Allow the bank robber to leave. Law Enforcement will pursue the robber.

On Tuesday May 25, 2010 at 4:35 p.m. a male student was robbed of his iPhone by two black males in the alley behind the Speech and Hearing Sciences/Social Work building. The victim was not injured. The suspects ran north up the alley. One was described as wearing a red and white coat with a Disney character on it (Donald Duck), and the other was wearing a black and white coat with unknown lettering. Both suspects appeared to be in their 20's. Both suspects are still at large.

This case is being investigated by the Seattle Police Department under case number 10-173097. Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to call the Seattle Police Department at 206-625-5011

On 5/12/2010 at approximately 11:30 p.m., a resident of McCarty hall was awakened by the presence of an unknown male inside her room. The victim asked the suspect what he was doing in her room. The suspect responded by saying he was looking for his friend who lives in a fraternity. The victim noticed that the suspect was holding her apple laptop computer. The victim asked the suspect if he was trying to rob her, at which point the suspect left the laptop on the desk and fled the area. University of Washington Police Officers conducted a search of the surrounding areas but were unable to locate the suspect. The suspect was described as a black male, 18-25 years of age, 200-250 lbs, stocky build, no facial hair or glasses, wearing a black puffy jacket and black hat with white on it.

This case is being investigated by the UWPD under case # 10-000851. If you have any additional information about this crime or suspect, please call the University of Washington Police Department at 206.685.8973. To report other suspicious activities or persons call 911.

On Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at approximately 1:40 p.m., a bank robbery occurred at a bank in the 1300 block of N.E. 45th Street in Seattle. The robbery suspect was described as a white male in his 40's, 5'-09" in height, medium build, with light brown hair and clean shaven. The suspect was wearing an off-white baseball cap with a dark brim, a gray zippered sweat shirt covering a black shirt underneath, light colored pants with a stripe down the sides, and white shoes. After the robbery, the suspect fled westbound from the bank.

Seattle Police and University of Washington Police Officers responded to the scene and conducted an extensive area check but were unable to locate the suspect. This incident is being investigated by the Seattle Police Department and the FBI under SPD incident number 10-145257. Anyone having additional information regarding this case is asked to call the Seattle Police Department at 206-233-5000.

On Thursday, April 22, 2010 at approximately 2:15 p.m., a robbery occurred at a bank in the 1200 block of N.E. 45th Street in Seattle. The robbery suspect was described as a white male in his late 50's, 5'09" to 5'10" in height with a light gray beard. The suspect was wearing a light blue ski hat, a light blue sweater and jeans and was seen carrying a black backpack. During the robbery, the suspect displayed a black handgun. After the robbery, the suspect fled from the bank and headed in a northbound direction.

Seattle Police and University of Washington Police Officers responded to the scene and conducted an extensive area check but were unable to locate the suspect. This incident is being investigated by the Seattle Police Department and the FBI under SPD incident number 10-131131. Anyone having additional information regarding this case is asked to call the Seattle Police Department at 206-625-5011.

On Wednesday, March 10 at approximately 3:00 p.m., a female student was walking towards the NW corner of parking area N-1 near the Burke Museum, talking on her iPhone. She was approached from behind by two males who grabbed her phone and fled in a southwest direction. One suspect was described as in his 20s, 5'-11" to 6'-0" tall, wearing an olive green t-shirt and blue jeans. The second suspect was described as in his 20s, 5'-11" to 6'-0" tall wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans. Both were described as clean-shaven.

Officers conducted an area check but found nothing. This incident is being investigated by the University of Washington Police Department under incident number 10-000441. 02/23/2010 - Strong Armed Robberies - SEATTLE CAMPUS

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

On Tuesday February 23, 2010 two strong arm robberies occurred near the University of Washington campus in Seattle.

1) At approximately 1:00 p.m., a female student was approached by 4-5 males at a bus stop located near University Village in the 2700 block of N.E. 45th Street. One of the suspects took an iPod Touch from the victim as she was listening to it. The suspects were described as wearing black sweaters and blue jeans. One had his hair up in a pony tail. The victim was not injured.

2) At approximately 1:10 p.m., two males, 18-21 years of age, approached a female student in the 4500 block of 15th Avenue N.E. and took an iPhone from her. One of the suspects was described as 5'10", wearing a dark sweater with blue jeans. The second suspect was 5'7", thin build, with dark hair and a pony tail, wearing a black sweater and blue jeans. The victim was also not injured.

Officers conducted an area check but found nothing. These incidents are being investigated by the Seattle Police Department under incident numbers 10-61392 and 10-61371. Anyone having additional information regarding these cases is asked to call the Seattle Police Department at 206-625-5011.
