[UW Safety] Notification of a Criminal Incident - Unlawful entry, McCarty Hall, Seattle Campus

This message is being sent to all UW Seattle Campus Students with the approval of the UW Police Department.

Notification of a Criminal Incident - Seattle Campus

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

On 5/12/2010 at approximately 11:30 p.m., a resident of McCarty hall was awakened by the presence of an unknown male inside her room. The victim asked the suspect what he was doing in her room. The suspect responded by saying he was looking for his friend who lives in a fraternity. The victim noticed that the suspect was holding her apple laptop computer. The victim asked the suspect if he was trying to rob her, at which point the suspect left the laptop on the desk and fled the area. University of Washington Police Officers conducted a search of the surrounding areas but were unable to locate the suspect. The suspect was described as a black male, 18-25 years of age, 200-250 lbs, stocky build, no facial hair or glasses, wearing a black puffy jacket and black hat with white on it.

This case is being investigated by the UWPD under case # 10-000851. If you have any additional information about this crime or suspect, please call the University of Washington Police Department at 206.685.8973. To report other suspicious activities or persons call 911.

Prevention tips for incidents such as this:

- Call 911 immediately to report suspicious activity or persons to the police.
- Avoid confrontations with suspects if possible.
- Secure all doors and windows to prevent unauthorized entry.
