Timely Warning Notification of Criminal Incident
August 21, 2009
Attempted Robbery - Seattle

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

Around 2:30 a.m. on August 21, 2009, two UW students walking eastbound on N.E. 45th Street from University Way, N.E. noticed they were being followed by three males in a dark colored vehicle. As they neared 16th Avenue N.E., two suspects exited the vehicle and demanded the victims' wallets. The victims were subject to assault as they attempted to run to their apartment and managed to escape serious injury. The suspects fled in an unknown direction.

This incident is being investigated by the Seattle Police Department under incident number 2009-294933. If you have any additional information about this crime please call the Seattle Police Department at 206-625-5011.


Prevention tips for incidents such as this:

* Be aware of your environment and alert for possible danger.
* Remove yourself from potentially dangerous situations as soon as possible.
* Walk with a group.
* Call 911 to report suspicious activity or persons to the police.
* Call Husky NightWalk: 206-685-WALK (9255) for a security guard escort to various locations on campus and within a one-mile radius off campus. The hours of operation for these uniformed guards are 6:00pm-2:00am, 7 days a week.

[UW Safety] Information Regarding a Criminal Incident - Seattle Campus

This message is being sent to all Faculty, Staff, and Students with the approval of the UW Police Department.

Timely Warning Notification of a Criminal Incident

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

On 8/12/09 at approximately 11:17 p.m., UW Police, Seattle Police, and the Seattle Fire Department responded to two separate fires in Seattle's West Campus at 12th Ave N.E. and N.E. 41st Street. Both fires occurred on the exterior of two wood-frame UW buildings which were unoccupied. The initial investigation indicates the fires were set intentionally by an unknown suspect(s).

This incident is being investigated by the University Police Department under case number 09-001647.

This incident is also being investigated by the Seattle Fire Department under case number 09076978.
