This message to members of the University community is being sent via UW email in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus. On Monday April 27, 2009, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a man got off a bus in the 4500 block of University way N.E., and walked southbound on the west side of the street, when he was surrounded by three men. The suspects started taunting and laughing at him, and one of them grabbed a small grey plastic bag from the victim containing his wallet. The suspects ran south around the corner, then northbound in the alley. Seattle Police conducted an area search, but the suspects were not located. The victim could not give detailed descriptions of the suspects.

Timely Warning Notification of a Criminal Incident

Strong-arm Robbery - Seattle Campus

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

On Saturday April 25, 2009, at approximately 2:20 p.m., a woman was walking up the spiral staircase at 15th Ave N.E. and Campus Parkway near the Henry Art Gallery. Halfway up the staircase, the male suspect grabbed a small purse (the size of a wallet) from the woman's coat pocket. She was able to grab the purse, a struggle ensued, and the suspect fled up the stairs with the purse. The victim was not injured and declined medical attention. Neither the victim nor the suspect is affiliated with the University of Washington. The suspect is described as a white male, 30-49 years of age, 5'8" tall with a slim build and a long pony tail. He was wearing a dark blue baseball cap, a hooded puffy green jacket, and denim blue jeans with the cuffs rolled up. He wore a gold earring.

[UW Safety] UPDATE: Seattle Police Arrest Suspect in University Way Shooting

University Way Shooting Incident *****UPDATE*** SEATTLE POLICE ARREST SUSPECT

A previous Timely Warning described an incident on April 17, 2009 at 8:45
p.m., in which two men with no known affiliation to the University of
Washington had an altercation in the 4200 block of University Way, N.E. During
the altercation one of the individuals shot the other in the face. The victim
sustained an injury to the jaw area of his face and was transported to
Harborview Medical Center.

We are pleased to report that Seattle Police arrested a suspect in the
shooting on April 20, 2009, at 7:30 a.m. We want to thank SPD for their
efforts.

University Police reminds students to be cautious and aware of their
surroundings at night in the University District.

University Way Shooting Incident

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

On April 17, 2009 at 8:45 p.m., two men with no known affiliation to the University of Washington had an altercation in the 4200 block of University Way Northeast. During the altercation one of the individuals shot the other in the face. The victim sustained an injury to the jaw area of his face and was transported to Harborview Medical Center.

Witnesses called 911 and Seattle Police and paramedics responded. The suspect ran southbound from the scene and was not found. No additional information is available at this time. University Way Altercation

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of
public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification
of crimes committed on or near campus.

On April 15, 2009 at 11:30 p.m., two men with no known affiliation to the University
of Washington got into an argument in the 4700 block of University Way N.E. The
disturbance escalated and the suspect hit the victim in the face, knocking him to the
ground. The victim's head struck the curb causing a significant head trauma injury.

A witness called 911, and Seattle Police and paramedics responded. The suspect left
the scene heading westbound and was not found. No additional information is available
at this time. This incident is being investigated by the Seattle Police Department.

University Police believe this incident poses no risk to students in the area. There
are individuals who frequent the University District and engage in such violent
behavior. UWPD advises students to be cautious and aware of their surroundings late at
night in the District.

Timely Warning Notification of a Criminal Incident

Suspect in University District Assault Arrested

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public
safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes
committed on or near campus.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 8:13 p.m., a female UW student was assaulted at the intersection
of University Way, N.E. and N.E. 41st Street. The perpetrator asked her for twenty dollars,
was refused and asked for the money a second time. After the second refusal, the suspect punched
the victim in the face. The suspect then fled the scene but was located by a UWPD officer a few
blocks away. The suspect was detained, positively identified by a witness, and subsequently
arrested by Seattle Police and booked into King County jail. The victim was treated at the
scene by medics.

* Avoid confrontations whenever possible

* Remove yourself from potentially dangerous situations as soon as possible.

* Be aware of your surroundings.

* Call 911 when you believe a confrontation is escalating.

Robbery - Seattle Campus

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

On April 8, 2009, at approximately 10:55 p.m., a female student was walking in the area of N.E. 41st Street and 11th Ave N.E. when she was attacked from behind by two or three female suspects. The victim was knocked to the ground and her backpack containing a laptop computer and her wallet was stolen. The suspects then fled northbound on 11th Ave. N.E.

Timely Warning Notification of a Criminal Incident

Strong Armed Robbery - Seattle Campus

This message to members of the University community is being sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus.

At midnight on April 4, 2009, a female UW student was walking to her apartment in the 4500 block of 16th Ave N.E. The victim observed three high school age females near the alley entrance to her building. As the victim approached the entrance, one of the female suspects asked to use her phone. Another asked for bus fare. As the victim pulled out her wallet the third also asked for bus fare. One of the suspects began to pull on the victim's purse. The victim told the suspect to let go. The suspects were able to pull the victim's purse away and then fled eastbound on N.E. 45th Street. The victim in this incident was uninjured.

A short time later, a similar strong armed robbery was reported several blocks away at Cowen Place N.E and N.E. Ravenna Blvd. The suspects--whose descriptions were similar to the other incident --were unable to wrestle anything away from this victim, but the victim did sustain a head laceration.
