Members of the University of Washington Community:
This Friday morning, Nov. 6, traffic on the east side of the Seattle campus along Montlake Boulevard will be slowed by the funeral procession going to Key Arena for the memorial service for Seattle Police Officer Timothy Brenton, who was killed in the line of duty on Saturday, Oct. 31. All of us at the University Police Department send our sincere condolences to Officer Brenton's family and to his extended family at the Seattle Police Dept.
Access by vehicle to facilities in east and southeast campus Friday morning will be difficult, so plan ahead. The funeral cortege will start from parking lot E-1, proceed south on Montlake Boulevard, cross the Montlake Bridge and head south on 24th Avenue East. As many as 1,500 police vehicles are expected to participate in the procession, which will travel at a slow pace, about 10 mph. The cortege is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., although traffic will be affected earlier as vehicles gather in parking lot E-1. Traffic on Montlake and on Pacific Street will be impacted for about 2 1/2 hours once the procession begins.
